MIDI In to Unreal Engine 4 for Beginners/Introduction to Send/Receive with Blueprints - Video Tutorials With Project Files

MIDI controllers are awesome for adding standard controls to your music or visuals rig...but what about inside the Unreal Engine, for interaction with real-time rendering? MIDI Controllers work great in Unreal Engine as well - you can use them to do all sorts of live interaction. If you're new to the Unreal Engine especially this tutorial series will be great for learning how to start integrating non-standard controllers, without having to set up axes in advance.

Part 1 - Basic Blueprint Layout, MIDI configuration

Part 2 - Using Blueprint Functions to Send Data Places In Your Scene, Such As This Awesome IDI

All of the work happens in Blueprints #nodelife Because MIDI is awesome, if the controller works on your computer in the regular old-school 1.0 fashion it will work with Unreal. No external plugins required, just the MIDI plugin from Epic themselves. Built with 4.24.2. Tests using several standard internal MIDI loopback plugins were smooth as butter, but for serious work I recommend doing your MIDI on a different machine from your Unreal scene.

In general - please consider watching the video before diving in to the Blueprint! If you're already using Blueprint Functions you can skip part 2, make one and send the MIDI there. If you're new to Unreal take extra time with Part 2 - really internalize the technique for sending around your data, it makes programming way less stressful.

This tutorial series assumes you have some comfort with Unreal - we take it slow, but if you've never made a Blueprint before this one might be a bit tricky for you.
